Artist's Description

A Colorado oil pump stands isolated against the onslaught of an approaching storm. The supercell driving the curtains of rain and hail produced several tornado reports from Denver eastward on the afternoon of May 21, 2014.

Composing photographs of supercells is challenging. I usually chase solo, which means a flood of decisions for navigation, reading the storm, checking meteorological data, while looking for good vantages. Then all of that needs to coincide with an engaging point in the sto
